Cognitive Hypnotherapy for Low Self Esteem | Online UK & West London
When our self esteem is high, we feel positive about ourselves and our life. It helps us deal with difficult situations and stops us from blaming ourselves when things don't work out. Feeling okay in your own skin allows you to take the good from each situation, and to see challenges as opportunities for growth and learning.
Having low self esteem means we are less resilient to cope with life's inevitable hurdles, and can stop us from taking on new situations, meeting new people, or trying things that would help us to grow. Having a harsh inner voice, which often runs uninterrupted and unexamined for years, and frequently stems from childhood, makes living with ourselves unnecessarily difficult.
“The time I spent with Ella has been a real game changer. I’ve been in therapy for over 15 years, and in just a few months with her I made more progress than I had in years.
I’m incredibly grateful for her support. She has helped me reach a place I didn’t believe was possible for me.”
How low self esteem affects the body
Low self esteem isn't only a mental or emotional experience- it's also bad for our health. A persistent inner critic keeps the nervous system in a low-level state of alert, contributing to stress, driving chronic pain and illness, and making us feel anxious and fearful.
This happens because shame and self-criticism are processed by the nervous system in much the same way as external threat. The body responds with tension, vigilance, and a readiness to defend, even though the "threat" is coming from within. Over time, this can affect sleep, digestion, immune function, and overall resilience.
This connection between low self esteem and physical health is often overlooke, but it means that addressing self esteem can have a much wider impact than people expect, supporting recovery from anxiety, chronic pain and improving overall wellbeing too.
How Cognitive Hypnotherapy can help
Cognitive Hypnotherapy can help you understand where that inner critic is coming from, why it is the way it is, how to subdue and unlearn it, and replace it with a kind and understanding inner voice that will support you through life's ups and downs.
This work happens at the level of the subconscious mind, where the beliefs underlying low self esteem actually live. Rather than trying to argue with the inner critic or override it with positive thinking, we explore its origins — often tracing it back to early experiences — and gently reduce its grip, replacing old conclusions with something more accurate and more kind.
Somatic awareness is woven throughout this work too, helping you notice where shame and self-criticism live in the body, and building a kinder, more grounded relationship with yourself from the inside out.
You spend the most amount of time with yourself - so learning to like, love and support yourself is one of the best gifts you can give yourself. Having healthy self esteem improves all areas of your life: your career, relationships, home life, what you do for fun, how healthy you are, your ambitions and goals, and your ability to live in the present moment and enjoy being yourself.
Low self esteem is often closely linked to lack of confidence and limiting beliefs - and all of these can change.
This work forms part of the wider Breath Body Mind Method.
